the heating was hopeless, and it was freezing when I stayed. I thought I’d receive an upgrade for my trouble, but no such luck! oh, and the room was so small I barely had space to turn around. if I wanted a cramped mess with mismatched furniture, I would’ve just stayed at home.

Positive, My family and I stayed for 3 nights. The room was clean, with a good shower and breakfast. Tea and coffee in the room were great. It's a bit away from the front but close to bus stops and local shops. Good value for what we got. ☕

Enjoyed the cozy atmosphere at Melrose. Great full English breakfast each morning with quality ingredients was a highlight. The owners, Peter and Xin, were very welcoming and attentive to dietary needs. The location was perfect—just a short walk to the Promenade and local restaurants. My room, while small, was comfortable and included tea-making facilities. Having the bathroom shared wasn't an inconvenience, but I noticed it could use a bit of modernization. Some parts of the property appeared a bit dated, and improvements in decor could elevate the experience. great value for money and I would certainly consider returning.

Solo travelers would find it cozy
The breakfast was excellent, and the host was a thoroughly nice bloke who obviously cares about looking after his guests. When I asked for some extra tea, he was more than happy to oblige, which made my evenings even better.
It wasn’t exactly cheap but still within an acceptable range for what I got.

local shops, close bus stops, overall cleanliness
Heating system entirely inadequate!!! The TV lounge locked and used as storage, leaving no common area to enjoy together!!! Consider updating cramped bathrooms and matching furniture for a more cohesive look!!!

The third-floor room I stayed in was cosy and had a comfortable bed that was exactly what I needed after a long trip. The breakfast was hearty, and I appreciated the flexibility in order options, including an early breakfast when I needed to catch a ferry.
The room had a peculiar slant, and there were packing materials under the legs of the furniture which didn't help the overall vibe. The 5th-floor climb can be quite exhausting, especially if you've got a lot of gear. The shower desperately needed some regrouting and the kettle was a bit suspect, so I skipped the tea. It can get a bit chilly since heating was not adequate during my stay, and the noise from seagulls at night was less than peaceful.

It was just a great match for a two-day stay in Douglas, good value for the money. The breakfast portions were hearty, and I appreciated Peter's flexibility in accommodating my early morning ferry schedule. Bring some earplugs if you're sensitive to noise at night.

Loved the breakfast vibe!
Room was comfy but a bit cramped. The breakfast spread was amazing, really made my mornings! I appreciate they do packed lunches. The location was a hike from the town center, which was a bit of a drag after a long day.
